Report Card Time

I did a fair bit of time travel in the past couple of days, so please excuse the jet lag. During the first month of Superdraft2006, I did some rudimentary predictions and some analysis on where each GM chose to spend his salary cap dollars. I've been watching our GM's leave great players on the bench.

But now, I'm taking this analysis to a whole new level. In April, I'm planning on submitting this entire blog for absolute fullfillment of my PhD in HockeyPooliganism from TSNU.

Shown below is a table that identifies actual points achieved by forwards and defense in the active rosters, in relation to the predictions that were made in a previous post. As an extra bonus, I have calculated the active salary cap for each GM's offensive and defensive ranks. After a little more magical math I present the Points Per Million data for each week. Highs and lows in the pertinent categories are shaded in yellow and orange, respectively.

It could be just me, but I find this kind of interesting.

The fifth row of data is labelled Report Card. This is the amount of points your team has achieved versus my pro-rated prediction. Of 22 scores, only 4 are above 90% and only 5 in the 80%'s. On the positive side, there is only one failing grade (you know who you are!).

Active average salary for forwards ranges between $16.5 and $25.9 million. For defensemen it ranges between $5.4 and $15.4 million. Average points per million for forwards ranges from 11 to 22. For defensemen it ranges from 9 to 29. I never would have expected the high end on defense to be higher than on forwards. I'm going to have to think about that one.

And now to your homework. You've got some 'splainin' to do. I expect each of you to identify the reasons why your team is not meeting the projections, and to come up with an action plan for improvement.

Note: It is actually possible to get advanced degree's in hockey poolitis. There are some pretty fancy formulas in there. Mine are more likely to be like:

You could win a Nobel prize if you focused your intelligence on something relevent.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I don't believe I could ever win a Nobel prize. But thanks for the vote of confidence!
