The Official Holdover Post

Ok summer is over, put away that Speedo and break out your spreadsheets, it is time for hockey season to begin!

The deadline for picking your holdovers for this years Superdraft is October 1st. Please post your holdovers in the comments section of this post. This will give everyone enough time to plan for the draft which will happen one or 2 weeks later depending on everyones schedules. Post your picks early if you won't be around at the deadline - you don't have to wait until the last day.

Note: try logging in before the deadline as I am sure some of you have forgotten your id/password.

As for the Draft - Wednesday October 8th, Thursday the 9th, or Friday the 10th. Seems like some of you have plans on the weekends. Lame! Pick the day you prefer and post it with your holdovers. Majority will win the minority will have to suck it up and cancel whatever else they had planned. If you’re out of town make sure you have access to the internet.

F.Y.I. Salary Cap for this year is $51 million assuming we have all 12 teams back this year. If people drop out or we get extra teams that number could change.

Where does one find the final rosters for all teams last year?

GregO said...

Open up this spreadsheet. Find the little tabby that has your name on it. Print it. (Use the button that looks like a printer.) Get a pen, crayon, or whatever you are comfortable with and go through the list of transactions. When you find an addition or subtraction, marker it on your roster list.

You will notice that on week 8 you drafted Wisniewski, week 17 you traded Heatley & Phaneuf for Datsyuk and MA Bergeron and you bought-out Nylander, on week 19 you picked up R Blake, on week 21 you traded Redden for Corvo, and on week 23 you traded Gonchar for McCabe.

As long as you haven't used yellow, you should have a nice list.

That was rather funny. Glad Brad asked that one (I was going to do the same). My vote is for the 9th.

I vote for Wed Oct 8th...Also I am going to look in the rules, but does anyone know what the max number of games a player can play in a year and still be a rookie in the next??

GregO said...

My vote is the 9th, for reasons similar to Tim.

Rookie Definition. Less than 25 games and some other complicated lawyer type stuff...

Holdovers (subject to the usual iffyness):

Alfredsson
Zetterberg
Brown
Zubov
Letang

Don't worry Horc. We'll lock you up in the first round!

My vote is for Wed Oct. 8. You'll have to patiently wait for my holdovers - more research is required.

MILF Hunter said...

Ok - holdover research complete.

Rafalski
Kopitar
Boyle
Toews
Horton

If this is the case, then Bobby Ryan is still a rookie at 23 games last year. So this makes my tentative holdovers:

J.Iginla
P.Kane
B.Ryan
A.Markov
M.Zidlicky

You should be safe with Bobby Ryan Howie. I have seen a few articles list him as a Calder Candidate so I think he still qualifies as a rookie. Maybe Greg can confirm.

Creepy Holdovers;
Holdovers (subject to the usual iffyness):

Cammalleri M
Staal E
Green M
Lidstrom N
Hainsey R

26 mill spent; 25 to go...

Barry said...

I vote for 8th; it could be tomorrow, i am ready.

Broker Bill said...

I will join the fun. My holdovers are:

Evgeni Malkin - 0.984 mil
Derek Roy - 3.5 mil
Alexander Semin - 4.2 mil
Brian Campbell - 7.142 mil
Dion Phaneuf - 7 mil

Leaves a little over 28 million left to spend.

For the love of chicken...WHO THE HELL IS ON MY TEAM?

Where is that goddamn list of final roster players? Iffy and co. got every freakin' stat on god-knows-what, but no simple list of who had what come April 6th?

I need input!!! Anyday works for me, Oct8-9 whatever. At a pub?

GregO said...

Is anyone else having these types of issues? Does anyone know of a good psychiatrist?

Maybe that link doesn't work that I gave you. Go to the Superdraft Resources Page and click on Weekly Update (xls). It is the third thing down on the top right hand corner of this website.

For the challenged...

Stabnicky - Here is your team.

Getzlaf, Ryan
Backstrom, Nicklas
Avery, Sean
Perry, Corey
Schneider, Mathieu
Havlat, Martin
Carter, Jeff
Ribeiro, Mike
Wellwood, Kyle
Higgins, Christopher

Wisniewski
Datsyuk
Bergeron, MA
Blake, Rob
Corvo
McCabe

You can't keep Getzlaf because you kept him last year. You can only keep 2 top 50 players.

My guess is that your team is going to suck.

______
note - word verification for this post is "dsuwc"

see - your defense suwcs

Stadnicky said...

See, I do learn from my kids. When one whines long enough, eventually they get what they want. I'm totally in agreement with you on that 'psychiatrist' comment and 'suck/suwcs' comment, but to tell me that I can't keep Getzlaf, well duh, I'm not stupid you know!!!

Good job Iffy.

My vote would be for Friday the 10th or for the weekend before. I will be in Montreal on the 8th at a banquet and am flying home Thursday night and can't make either day.

Quagmire said...

Don't care which day. Lets have it in the North this time, gas is too expensive and my team does not pay me mileage.

Quagmire said...

My hold overs for now unless I change my mind:

Ovechkin
Richards, M
Weber
Mueller, P
Hanzal, M

My house is open on the 10th if anyone would prefer to have a poker game after the draft.

GregO said...

Quagmire - North sounds really good. It might break the Stadnicky curse. I talked to Brian. 10th works fine for him and Trevor, but it has to start after 8:00.

Is there a good pub up there somewhere with the internets? We need to have Creepy online for the draft.

Broker Bill said...

The 10th works for me - well honestly any day or place works fine for me...

Kernel said...

Prefer 9th or 10th but can do 8th too.
I'll have my holdovers soon...tentatively:
Thorton
Niedermayer
Visnovski
Enstrom
still undecided on the last one, will have it figured out soon.

Quagmire said...

I can check the Scottsmans Well, it is not too far from my place. I'll let you know regarding the wireless connection there.

Quagmire said...

Wireless connection is available. We'll see how the voting turns out. Later.

Outlaws said...

My vote for the draft is on Wednesday Oct. 8 or Friday Oct. 10 as I am busy on Thursday nights.
My keepers (subject to change before Oct. 1) are:
P. Stastny - $700,000
M. Savard - $5m
J. Cheechoo - $3m
J. Hudler - $1.15m
C. Campoli - $625,000

Barry said...

With the new Atlanta pickup
Hansiey is out 4.5
Wolski is in 2.5

Still a few days to be wishy-washy right.

BrotherlyLoveLover said...

Iffy.... thought I had Cogliano in my line at the end of the year. Did you just miss him in you list above?

Trent L said...

The keepers are.....

1. Sidney Crosby F
2. Tomas Kaberle D
3. Mark Streit D
4. Alex Tanguay F
5. Tom Gilbert D

See you at the draft.

GregO said...

Brotherly Luv Luvr - Yes you did have Cogliano. This listing was only intended for those not paying attention. Good work!

As for the rest of you who haven't submitted your picks, you have until the end of Wednesday Oct 1. As per the rules, if you do not post your holdover selections, you will get to keep your 5 most expensive players.

Also, feel free to change your selections up to the end of Wednesday.

GregO said...

I have the TimPics in my email. Please let me know if anyone else is having trouble with the blog let me know.

Recap:
Thornton
Niedermayer
Visnovsky
Enstrom
And last pricey holdover:
Langkow
I think that leaves me with about $5 in salary room for the draft. Wish me luck.

GregO said...

WTF Muckaluck? You're done trying?

TimBit Hockey holds over

Lecavalier
Spezza
Brind'Amour
Bouchard
Pronger

Take that computer back to where you bought it from and tell them, well you know.

Stadnicky said...

I am ok with drafting on the 10th, but the draft should be in the south. Most of the guys live in the south so its doesn't make sense to drive up north for one guy, sorry Quagmire!!!

GregO said...

ummm 4-time I think there may be more than one guy in the North? Kern, Reg? These guys have had to travel south for every draft and redraft so far.

Anyways, I'm OK wherever we end up. The only stipulation is that we need internet access for the Saskatchewan arm of the pool. I genuinely appreciate Quagmire's offer to host.

Quagmire - were you offering your place for draft & poker - or just for the poker?

As far as I know, Friday night is still good for everyone (except Tim). Please confirm. Tim will provide me with a list. We are generally picking in different rounds anyways, if you know what I mean!

Quagmire said...

Can be both. The Scottsman is not that far from my place, we can have the draft there then head back to my place for poker. Or both here, as I do have a wireless router, just need to figure out the key and password to get you logged on.

Barry said...

Your all invited to my house....its in the north.

GregO said...

In my best accent...

Nehh I did nt sey de Nort pole. Eh?

MILF Hunter said...

We should have kept the golf trip BangBus for another week to transport all of us to the frosty north! This is the last time I am going north of Glenmore Trail for any reason - EVER! Well ok maybe I could go one block north of Glenmore if I happen to be on McLeod Trail...I heard there is a good bar somewhere around there.

I think I can speak for Howie and I both when I say that we would be OUT for poker after. Some of us have to make a living the next day.

GregO said...

It's probably only gonna take 10 minutes Brian. Come on stay for the poker...

Outlaws said...

so where and when is the draft going to be?????????

GregO said...

Reg.
Quagmire is going to get it up tonight. That's all I have to say about that!
