SD2K8 Draft Order

With Christmas (UFA) Season just around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to look at next year's draft. Above is my un-reconciled list of the draft order. Please look it over and let me know if there have been injustices (that are not your fault).

Let's cheer for big numbers for Cambell, Hossa, Redden, Langkow and others who don't involve Iffy or the Oilers.

Also, please let me know as soon as possible if you are / aren't interested in participating next year. Hopefully everyone will stay involved.

Merry Christmas.

I am in for next year.

My draft order seems right but Leaker's picks seem wrong. How could he only have one pick in the first 3 rounds? hehe...

Salary Cap is what for next year??? NHL cap is $56.7mil next year...

I am in to win. All the good players go in the 3rd and 10th round anyway. The cap was a little high last year for our draft; it needs an adjustment but it will depend on the number of teams drafting.

Greg has some formula to calculate the Cap that only he understands. I suggest we have a Cap based off the real NHL cap adjusted for the number of teams each year. It would go something like this:

14 teams = 80% NHL Cap
13 teams = 85% NHL Cap
12 teams = 90% NHL Cap
11 teams = 95% NHL Cap
10 teams = 100% NHL Cap
etc...

This would make the cap $51 million for next years draft. It's a increase but smaller than it would be under the old system. If we would have used this system last year the cap would have been $2 million lower ($45.5 instead of $47.5). I think most will agree that it was a little too easy to pickup those $10 million guys last year.

Anyway we should get everyones input. I have a bunch of $7 million+ holdovers and could use all the cap room I can get.

I was astounded last year by the number of high-cost players that were picked in the draft. The goal of the cap system in this draft is to keep people from taking the ridiculous Vanek or Briere contracts and still be able to field a good team.

I vote yes to the Dollar Bill system. I would add that the calc is to be rounded to the nearest $500K.

As we get more agreement, I'll add it to the rules for next year.

You are correct. Leaker does have 2 picks in the first 3 rounds. On Jan 25, he traded his 2008 4th pick to Outlaws for a 2008 2nd pick. (This has not been fixed in the graphic.)

I am remorseful that I didn't realize this earlier and utilize it in my negotiations.
