Blue-liner turned forward impresses Blackhawks

If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, it's probably a duck. Hell even his own NHL hockey team has him as a forward.

As noted by an official NHL website

This is an injustice and must be corrected - time to put in the Bieksa powerhouse Billy!

***Of credit Broker Bill did bring this atrocity to light on his own.

That official NHL link that you provided shows him as a defensemen front and center. Please call your next witness.

Oh changing the links now...

Anyways, I believe I ruled on this by email.

Again: We have no rules to govern this exact situation. The closest corollary we can draw is in reference to the salary rulings. We are relying upon the NHLPA website to define the salary status of the players. It follows that we should rely upon the NHLPA website to define the positional status of the players.

Last I checked ... five minutes ago ... the Byf was shown as a defensemen.

By the way, wasn't your only point from tonight scored by Prospal manning the point on a power play? I'm clearly making that up, but what if it was true. Should those points be taken away?

Granted this is a unique situation and it is not common that a player will switch positions that they were drafted for.

Salaries are set at the begining of the year, and can very depending on how the compensation is set and thus using the NHLPA as a standard makes sense.

Your analysis of a player taking a shift on the point for a power play is not compariable as Bfy is taking a very regular shift up front (and thanks - appreciate the highlight of my one point last night).

Anyhow - if we stay with Bfy as a Dman for this year - then fine - but I would like to recommend an ammendment for future years that if a player does make a "career" positional change, and everyone (including the team roster) but the NHLPA website recongizes it then we can account for it within the pool.

Each year I think the rules cover everything, but they never do. There will be a reference identified for identifying player position for next year's draft. Thanks Tim.

Okay Tim enough crying. I have put my Dman Byfuglien on the bench and put Bieksa on my active roster.

I still think the NHL or NHLPA website should be used as the offical source for player positions. And for the record not everyone thinks he's a forward. NHL, NHLPA, TSN and ESPN all have him listed as a Dman.

Regardless of Byfuglien Tim you still won't catch me.
