1. NHL salary cap is now $50.3M. Superdraft 2007 salary cap will be $47.5M.
2. Holdover rules restrict each team to two (2) top 50 players from last season. The cut-off for last season is 68 points. You may keep only two (2) players with 68 pts or more. You may not holdover a player two (2) years in a row.
3. Brian, Barry and Kern have successfully made it to the loser lottery. We will have the lottery immediately before the draft to see who gets first pick overall.
Below is a look at the teams from last year, in reverse standings, and how things look for this year:
Milfy - Brian

Ineligible: none
Top 50: St. Louis, Vanek, Brunette
On the Cusp (50-100): Vyborny, Cole, Zubrus, Naslund, Bouchard
Depth Players (100-300): Hemsky, Bergeron, Ballard, Rachunek
Deadbeats (300+): Stuart, Brule, Modry
Thank you Kevin Lowe, you hairbag piece of shit! Signing Vanek to that offer sheet was pure geniousity in terms of this hockey pool. One of the only bright spots on poor Milfy's roster was Thomas Vanek, until you screwed it up. Only Ballard remains unsigned for next year.
If I'm guessing, I have St. Louis ($6m), Brunette (1.6), Vyborny (2.2), Bouchard (2.6) and Bergeron (1.045) suiting up for the MILFettes next year. Vanek and his $10M salary will likely be hitting the Superdraft unemployment line.
Creepy - Barry
Ineligible: D. Sedin, Nagy, Weber, Jovanovski, Allison (ha ha)
Top 50: Jagr, Sedin, Semin
On the Cusp: Rolston, Kopitar, Tkachuk
Depth Players: Nagy, Zubov, Weber, Kelly, Radulov, Jovanovski
Deadbeats: Wideman, Kronwall, Ekman, Allison (ha ha)
Not getting any return for Weber and Sedin last year is a crime punishable by a return to the bottom 3 next year. With Weber signed for the league minimum, it's nice to see him back in the draft. He should be a first rounder. Kelly, Wideman, Ekman and Allison do not yet have contracts for next year.
With holdover candidates like Jagr (8.36), Semin (1.2), Rolston (2.432), Kopitar (0.85), and Radulov (0.689), it may no be that bad after all.
Kernel - Kern
Ineligible: Richards, Comrie, Carter, Ohlund
Top 50: Hossa, Kariya, Richards
On the Cusp: Dumont
Depth Players: Lang, Campbell, Comrie, Penner, Carter, Salo, Ohlund, Morrow, Lupul
Deadbeats: Seabrook, McCarthy
Penner and McCarthy do not have contracts. If Penner doesn't get a Vanek type contract (read offer sheet from K-Lo) I suspect the holdovers will be Hossa (7), Kariya (6), Dumont (2.5), Campbell (1.75) and Penner (RFA).
If the Oiler's do try to make the league minimum salary this year by poaching RFAs and paying them big bucks, perhaps Penner is the next logical place to look. Burke has been spending like a sailor in the past week and must be getting close to the cap if Niedermayer or Selanne return. If Penner gets a big payday, then substitute Lang (4) or Seabrook (0.942).
Broker - Bill
Ineligible: Sundin, Drury, Pitkanen, Mara
Top 50: Ovechkin, Datsyuk, H Sedin, Sundin, Straka
Cusp: Michalek, Afinogenov
Depth: Pitkanen, Corvo, Pothier
Deadbeats: Mara, O'Sullivan, Campoli, Smid
Only the newest Oiler is an RFA. According to K-Lo, Pitkanen has elected arbitration. The NHLPA doesn't say so, but who knows.
My guess is that we'll see Ovechkin (0.984), Sedin (3.575), Michalek (0.942), Afinogenov (3.5) and Corvo (2.5) in Broken Bill's line-up next year.
Stumblin - Doug
Ineligible: Briere, Tanguay, Bergeron, Recchi, Visnovski
Top 50: Briere, Tanguay, Kozlov, Bergeron, Zetterberg, Recchi
Cusp: Shanahan, Visnovski, Ryder
Depth Players: Schneider, Kovalev, Meszaros, Svatos
Deadbeats: Welch
How did this team not do better than middle of the pack? Anyways, I'm hearing rumours that Doug is not coming back next year. Please someone let me know if this is for sure. I believe that I have someone interested in buying a team next year.
Except for Recchi (1.75) who signed the "I just wanna play with Sidney" contract, the highest value top 50 guys that are on this team are eligible to be held over. Shanahan and Ryder are unsigned for next year. I'm guessing that Shanahan will sign on cheap with the cap-tight Rangers and the holdovers on the Ballsillie Bandits of Brampton will be Kozlov (3.3), Zetterberg (2.7), Shanahan (UFA), Ryder (RFA), Meszaros (0.984). Possible replacements for the free agents are perhaps Schneider and Svatos.
Briere's new contract will likely see him collecting Superdraft food stamps until 2013 when he no longer looks like a 12-year old and his salary drops to $3M.
FMJ - Chad
The Battle of Pennsylvania is looking a bit more interesting this year. Mind you, Lupul is now a Flyer. Apparently there is a call for bloggers.
Ineligible: Selanne, Forsberg
Top 50: Selanne, Jokinen, E Staal, Smyth
Cusp: Souray, Sullivan, Proner, Forsberg
Depth: Knuble, J Staal, Preissing, Ehrhoff, Beauchemin
Deadbeats: Hudler, O'Brien, Bourdon
Unsigned are Souray who will probably land a big $ contract, Selanne and Forsberg, who will probably retire, and maybe O'Brien and Bourdon who I didn't really look for.
The FMJ Flyiers will likely include Jokinen (5.25), E Staal (4.5), Souray (UFA), Pronger (6.25) and J Staal (0.85). Trying to wrestle the Superdraft Cup from Stadnicky, FMJ will likely be keeping the beef on his blue line this year. (OK - that sounded gay.)
If Souray signs for the max, maybe we see Ehrhoff or even a rookie defensemen coming back for a second tour of duty. (reference Leaker's Schremp addiction from last year)
Leaker - Tim
Ineligible: Just the only guy he couldn't bare to trade, Robbie Schremp. (Sorry, no link.)
Top 50: Alfredsson, Brind'Amour, Stastny, McDonald, Kovalchuk, Cheechoo
Cusp: Guerin
Depth: Boucher, Markov, Gionta, Liles, Stoll, Zhitnik
Deadbeats: Barker, Schremp, Meyer
They are all signed. Although it will be very tough for Timmy to take a pass on Stoll, the holdovers will likely be Alfredsson (5.451), Stastny (0.685), Boucher (2.5), Liles (1.4), Barker (0.689). With all those stud defensemen, it looks like a Scottish version of Stadnicky.
Timmy is hoping that Stastny, at 114 pts last year per $M salary this year, will be playing with 19 and 94. This will be the only way he can still heart Hairbag.
Quagmire - Sean
Ineligibles: Redden
Top 50: Iginla, Malkin, Whitney, Marleau, Frolov, Blake, Pominville
Cusp: Erat
Depth: Bouwmeester, Redden, Armstron, Zidlicky, VanRyn, Latendresse
Deadbeat: Spacek
Only Armstrong is unsigned, and has elected arbitration.
My guess is that Sean keeps Malkin (0.984), Pominville (0.925), Erat (1.75), Bouwmeester(2.25) and Latendresse (0.85) and spends $40M like a drunken Sather on draft day.
Outlaws - Reg
Ineligible: none - nice job of trading last year Reg!
Top 50: Sakic, Spezza
Cusp: Ribiero, Whitney, Nash, Gaborik, Prospal
Depth: Rafalski, Lombardi, Boyes, Clark, Ruutu, Perrault, Kuba, Zherdov, White
Deadbeats: Foster, Green
What a huge roster! Only Ribiero and Foster are unsigned. Both have elected arbitration. I'm guessing the keepers are Sakic (6.75), Spezza (5), Whitney (2.5), Prospal (1.9) and Lombardi (1.55).
The Outlaws are always a contender.
Iffy - Greg
Let me just say it. This is such a well-managed team.
Ineligible: Timonen (ha ha - nice contract Holmgren!)
Top 50: Crosby, Lecavalier, Savard, Cammalleri
Cusp: Williams, Demitra, Boyle, Parise, Gomez
Depth: Timonen, Clark, Carle, Commodore
Deadbeats: Nummelin
Cammalleri has elected arbitration and Parise has elected to receive a K-Lo offer sheet. (This actually makes sense for K-Lo, since New Jersey's Parise pick was traded away by the Oilers during the 2003 entry draft!)
We're likely going to see Crosby (0.85), Lecavalier (7.167), Boyle (3.625), Clark (1.1) and Carle (0.942) taking another ride on the Iffy-mobile. The Cammalleri and Parise contracts may cause a sharp turn. There are just so many good options here!
Iffy has been twice a Superdraft bridesmaid, but never a bride. Perhaps this year is the one!
Stadnicky - Brad
Ineligible: Thornton, Hamhuis, Montador
Top 50: Thornton, Heatley, Nylander (dirtbag), Langkow, Niedermayer
Cusp: Gonchar, Roy, Getzlaf, Kaberle
Depth: Phaneuf, Wolski, Eaves
Deadbeats: Hamhuis, Montador
Woo-hoo! Niedermayer is retiring! Don't check the interweb for this Brad. Just take my word for it. With Thornton's palatable contract extension, he will likely be the 1st pick in Superdraft 2007.
Roy and Montador don't have contracts and have filed for arbitration.
Nylander (dirtbag) should be playing with Ovechkin and Clark this year. I expect to see Heatley (5.5), Nylander (5.5), Gonchar (5.5), Getzlaf (0.623) and Phaneuf (0.942) back on the Nickies next year.
Stadnicky is the winningest GM in Superdraft history. Let's put an end to that y'all!

I think I am going to cut Sedin loose and carry over Straka instead. I am hoping Straka gets the nod to play with Drury and Yagr this year - or atleast Gomez on the second line. Besides I think at least one of the twins will be available in the later rounds.
36 million to spend - hmmmm Thorton will be mine (hopefully)!
Hopefully Nylanders screwing over the Oilers will Help out Ovechkin this year.
Nice post iffy. I am set for a run at the top for once. The only issue i can see is that draft day will likely be in-between several trips to Calgary and may need to 'trust' iffy with a list; or make him phone/ email me every 3 seconds. Btw greg are you supposed to be at the hospital or something by now.
creeeeeeepppy hehehehehhehee ; maybe i should change names yet again, until i pick a winner.
Bill - Hopefully Nylander will help Ovechkin and Clark :)
Barry - We are just waiting near the hospital. At 1 baby per hour all year long, they don't let you do much waiting at the hospital. Don't tell Chandra, but since all this waiting has given me some time to look at the hockey pool, this baby is going to be named Sidney - boy or girl!
Regarding the draft next year. Maybe we just use a place where we can access the internet and use the blog for the picks. We'll have to think about it.
