- Depth in your roster.
- Bad luck. You always had the wrong guy in at the wrong time.
- Incompetence. You always had the wrong guy in at the wrong time.
Pertinent to this discussion, I have been keeping track of the following superdraft stats on a weekly basis for each team:
- Total active points.
- Points on the bench.
- Points squandered.
Here is the cumulative data, all current to Jan 14 excepting the Dithers points which are one week behind:
Definitions
- Points squandered is probably best served with an example. Say my worst two forwards on the active roster for last week were Ovechkin & Savard, each with 2 points. If Frolov had 6 points and Demitra had 3 points on the bench, my coaching skills would have squandered 5 points in the forward position.
- Bench is the total points on the bench
- Actual is the same number that is shown on officepools.com
- Maximum is the sum of Actual and Squandered
- Total is the sum of Actual and Bench
- Dithers is a measure of the amount of coaching you have done. You get 1 dither point for a weekly roster move and 1 dither point for a trade.
Graphical
Shown below is a chart that shows actual, maximum and total points for each team. The data is sorted by maximum and is current to January 14.

Analysis
The way I see it, the job of the Superdraft team owner is comprised of two distinct parts: the GM who does all of the drafting and makes all of the trades; and the Coach who decides who plays on the top two lines on a weekly basis.
The graph above is sorted by maximum points, which is probably a good indication of GM prowess. The left hand side of the graph has the GMs who set their coaches up with the best players. The right hand side has the opposite. Not coincidentally, these are the guys who are leading the draft. Note: This analysis does not take poor luck into account. The effects of injuries are excluded.
Deviations from the sorting in the above graph, indicate coaching differences. Stadnicky is a better coach than Iffy. Quagmire is a better coach than Outlaws & Stumblin. You get the picture.
Conclusions
At this point I am unable to prove that Stadnicky does not belong in the upper echelon of Superdraft. If anyone has any way to help me prove this hypothesis, I'm all ears ... alot like these two.

Can you repeat that please? You lost me after "I've been wondering".
Maybe I'll start my next post with "Flush". (Adapted from MILFy's Favourite Movie)
