Although the reasons are not posted anywhere on the blog, here they are:
- This is how it is done in another pool that I am involved in. That is where I got the idea.
- In my opinion, the person who picks the best team to start with deserves to be awarded.
- The re-draft is meant to be an equalizer. This is why the last place teams get first chance at the available free agents. In my opinion, it would not be fair to penalize the GM who picked the best team on the first draft day.
The original draft day rules are posted here. The rules were communicated on the blog here. They haven't been on the resources page since shortly after the original draft day, as they were replaced by a new version that had a few grammar fixes and details relating to Broker Bill taking over the officepools administration. Communication for this change was here. I have now put all the versions back up on the resources page for your perusal.
I should also note that it is only the drops/pick-ups money that will go to the leader at the time of the re-draft. The weekly roster moves and trades proceeds are going into the pot for the eventual winner.
Now to the second part of Stumblin'Bumblin's question/comment:
Who gives a crap who leads after 6 weeks... If we are to reward someone,
give it to the team that would have won overall with their "original"
team/roster... that would mean something.
I'll start with some questions of my own.
- When you say "original" team/roster do you mean: starting line-up, top 10 salaries on each team, all 15 original draftees, etc.
- Since this is a reserve pool, with some GM's choosing to make moves every week, would we have to have a second officepools login to track the original team. Would we be making moves in both line-ups, the original and the post-draft?
Either way, I see this proposal as a bit of a nightmare to track and administer.

I hope these explanations meet your expectations Doug. If I'm being unreasonable, please let me know. If everyone wants to change this, I am more than happy to comply. I'm hoping for some comments here. And by the way, I do appreciate these comments and questions.

With my realistic belif that it is unlikley that we can come to a consensus agreeing to pay for all of the therpay the Freakin Flyers are causing me this year, I'm OK with the leader getting the proceeds from the free agent drafts. This is how my football pool works with a leader prize at the halfway point.
If the lower teams get to pick first, seems alright that the last picker, and the leader gets some profit as everyone else gets a chance to catch up.
I am fully expecting Luc Bourdon to go on a serious scoring streak and should have me well postioned to be taking home the cash at the next free agent draft. I think I'll start spedning it now.
I would like to host an intervention on FMJ's behalf, it seems as though as per his post earlier this year he is still on the JD and Mr. Clean, nice to see he has a sense of humour though.
Regarding the free agent draft, I agree with the leader prize rule as well, especially since he will be buying the first round and I will be ordering 6 rye and gingers on my own for the first round. See you Saturday.
Personally I think a "you suck at hockey pools" award be given - how the hell am I going to be able to afford playing next year....
on a serious note - I'm fine with everything that Greg has reiterated. All these points where discussed at the poker turny and at this years draft.
BTW - Quagmire, after you have finished those drinks we will need to talk trade - Iffy back off - you had MILF last year.
